Shihan Eddie Yoshimura

President of the U.S. Shidokan Association

 

"Shihan Eddie" as he is referred to by his students, is the highest ranking Shidokan practioner outside of Japan. Shihan Eddie currently holds the rank of 8th Dan (Degree), which he was awarded from SHIDOKAN Founder / Grandmaster Kancho Yoshiji SOENO in December 2005.

Shihan has been involved with Martial Arts all of his life. Beginning with Judo at the age of seven, Shihan then continued his education in Martial Arts by training in many different Martial Art Disciplines. His journey eventually led him to Japan, where he met and trained with the legendary Kancho SOENO. Shihan subsequently returned to America where with the assistance and support of his high-ranking students, founded the United States Shidokan Association.

Eddie is also a Gang Detective with Chicago Police Department Organized Crime Division. For the past nineteen plus years, Eddie has been assigned to and instructed Police in the following "City-Wide Units":

  • Robbery Decoy Unit
  • CTA Strike Force
  • Gang Crimes North
  • Summer Mobile Unit
  • Flying Squad
  • Mass Transit Tactical
  • Hostage Barricade-Terrorist Unit (HBT)
  • Special Operations Section
  • Public Housing North
  • Public Housing South
  • Gang Specialist with Gang Investigation Section
  • Narcotics and Gang Investigation Section
  • Detective with Gang Intelligence
  • HIDTA Jail Enforcement Team
Eddie has also instructed members of the CPD High Risk Entry Team(s) / HRET, Cook County Deputy Sheriff SORT Team, as well as members of the newly formed CPD SWAT team(s).

Shihan Eddie firmly believes that unlike may other systems or styles, SHIDOKAN is a "True Martial Art". When asked what his goal is, Eddie smiles and stated that his goal is very simple; "...To teach and train as many 'Grasshoppers' as time will permit...so that my twin daughters will have all the protection they will ever need".
