Round Robin Final Round
FIGHT #5
Musin Corbrey (USA) vs. Jeff Mrtyniak (Canada)
Mrtyniak scored with strong punches to the body while Corbrey countered with impressive round kicks in both of the Karate rounds. FIGHT #6
Jan Kazuba (Canada) vs. Shonie Carter (USA)
The Karate rounds were virtually filled with even exchanges by both fighters. In Round Three, Kazuba landed a ferocious knee combination which stunned Carter resulting in a standing 8 count. Kazuba immediately followed up with a devastating left hook to the jaw of the veteran MMA fighter to win this exciting match by the all too familiar Shidokan way -- by Knock Out.
FIGHT #7
Brad Baker (USA) vs. Jochen Gieb (Germany)
This fight was very exciting to the crowd for the following reason: if Team USA's Brad Baker wins then Team USA would record the greatest number of wins and subsequently with the International Team Championship. However, that scenario looked to be in jeopordy when team Germany's Jochen Gieb landed a perfect knee to Baker's head at the end of Round One. Baker, without a doubt, was saved by the bell. Baker seemed to regain his composure in Round Two and even took a slight advantage in Round Three. The tide had definitely changed in Round Three and Baker landed numberous Kow Kick/Punch combinations to Gieb who backed up the rest of the fight. Baker finished the fight by narrowly missing an Arm Bar as time elapsed to score a huge comeback and win via unanimous decision.
Chicago celebrities such as UFC Heavyweight Champion Andre Arlovski, Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., Chicago Mercantile Senior Advisor Jack Sandner, and the entire sold out crowd had a great time.
All fighters fought like champions.
